Irving offers a variety of enterainment options ranging from outdoor shows, live music, arts and culture, award-winning museums and water sports.
Live Entertainment
Toyota Music Factory opened in Fall 2017. It has 300,000-square-feet of entertainment, retail, and restaurant space, including a movie theater, comedy club and 20+ restaurant options. The Pavillion at the Toyota Music Factory – operated by LiveNation – was the the most attended amphitheater in the country as of July 2019, according to Pollstar Magazine.
During the spring and summer months, fill the cooler and grab a lawn chair and head to Whistlespot Plaza in the Heritage District for City-sponsored outdoor concerts.
The City of Irving’s annual comedy show, Laughs by the Lake, is held on the shores of Lake Carolyn in the fall. Budding comics have the opportunity to become stars.
Parks and Outdoor Events
Take a gondola ride on Lake Carolyn, take a long a run on Campión Trails, a master-planned, 12-foot wide concrete system of trails that run along the Elm and West Forks of the Trinity River or play a round at the Irving Golf Club, a reinvented golf course masterpiece just off the West fork of the Trinity River.
The City sponsors several annual events throughout the year including Canal Fest, an all-day outdoor event along the canal in the Las Colinas Urban Center; Annual DFW Dragon Boat, Kite and Lantern Festival; July 4th Concert and Fireworks; and numerous 5- and 10-K races.
Park Place Luxury and Supercar Showcase is a unique luxury lifestyle and auto showcase takes place at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas. The event features some of the world’s most exciting luxury and high-performance vehicles, live music and a fashion show.
Shopping
Residents and visitors have easy access to some of the best shopping in the country. There are countless independent shops and boutiques throughout the City of Irving. Irving Mall, a local landmark, features national anchor stores and a 14-screen theatre.
Additionally, shoppers can easily get to other major shopping areas by light rail or road within 20 to 30 minutes.
Museums
- The Mustangs of Las Colinas Museum tells the story of the history and construction of the magnificent structure in the heart of the Las Colinas Urban Center depicting nine over-sized horses crossing a stream. It is the largest equestrian sculpture in the world.
- Ruth Paine was an Irving resident in 1963 and a friend of Marina and Lee Oswald, President John Kennedy’s alleged assassin. In fact, Lee Oswald stored the gun he used in the Paine’s garage and slept in the house the night before the shooting.
Half a century later, the historic home has been restored to its 1963 look and opened as the Ruth Paine House Museum with original furniture and use of multimedia to tell the story of the events that occurred there. - In 1949 at the age of 13, Jackie Mae Townsell moved to Bear Creek, Dallas County’s oldest African-American Settlement. After emancipation, former slaves began moving into the area, which developed into a rural African-American enclave during the era of racial segregation. In the 1960s, Townsell became involved in efforts to improve living conditions in the community. She was elected to the Irving City Council in 1977 and served for 18 years.
The Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center tells the history of the Bear Creek community and of the African-American experience from the time of emancipation of the slaves through the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s-60s.
Sports
Irving hosts many spectator sport events each year including the Irving Tennis Classic as part of the ATP Challenger Tour.
Drive Nation, located near the entrance of DFW International Airport, is a sports facility designed to serve consumers of sports leagues, training, skill-building clinics/camps, and competition as well as personal fitness, sports performance training, pay-to-play recreation experiences, team building and corporate events, adventure programming, youth development activities, special events, and youth summer camps.
Additionally, sports aficionados can easily attend a professional football, baseball, basketball, soccer or hockey game by car or train.
